Anna Paquin & Stephen Moyer Ink Deal With HBO

Premiere Of HBO's "True Blood" Season 6 - After Party

Have you been wondering why Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer have suddenly joined social networks on the internet?  This may (or may not) have something to do with it…

Deadline is reporting that Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer have signed a two-year deal with HBO and their own production company (CASM films) to develop series, films and miniseries. This is what they said;

EXCLUSIVE: With their long-running vampire series coming to an end this summer, True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are staying in business with HBO. The duo’s production company CASM has signed a two-year, first-look deal with HBO to develop series, films and miniseries. That may include new starring vehicles for Paquin or Moyer as, in addition to producing, the pact includes options for the two to act and direct. This marks the first foray into television for CASM Films, which Paquin and Moyer launched in 2012 with producing partners Cerise Hallam Larkin and Mark Larkin, who, like the True Blood duo, are  a married couple. The company so far had been focused on features, producing the 2013 indie Free Ride, which starred Paquin, with a number of projects in development. Those include Twinkle, to be directed by Howie Deutch and starring Moyer; Pink Hotel, based on the novel by Anna Stothard which Paquin will write and direct; Bury This, based on the novel by Andrea Portes who is adapting for Paquin to star; Columbia, written by and to star Denis O’Hare which Moyer will direct; and an adaptation of Martin Millar’s Lonely Werewolf Girl.

This is good news for those who are wondering what Anna and Stephen are going to be doing after True Blood ends – but it’s also a painful reminder that the show will be ending soon. We wish them all the best in all their future endeavors!

Speaking of True BloodE! News is reporting that True Blood may be bringing back some familiar (and truly dead) characters to the show for Season 7 (like Terry Bellefleur and Russell Edgington). Check out Watch With Kristin’s interview with Todd Lowe on the link below.

Say wha….? It would be nice to see them for one last time before the show ends…but how are they going to bring back characters from the dead? Oh yeah…nevermind...this is True Blood afterall.

  1. I knew it !!! This was about their professional life and since they own a production company together having HBO help develop series and films make sense that they decided to become part of the social networks….. of course they need HBO support.right now as Anna and Stephen would like to continue thier acting careers..Take care everybody…

  2. Thanks Erika, yes that explains all the social media. This will be a good fit for them with their young family.
I certainly don’t think Anna needs HBO to continue to act! Not all actors put their their professional life before their personal one. Anna has young babies and I think this will also allow her to get into writing, directing and producing if that’s what she enjoys. And who’s not working with HBO or the other big cable networks now?
HBO has big money to throw at all their projects and is well respected by the industry.

I wish them the best as well as all the True Blood family. They’ve brought me much enjoyment (seasons 1,2,3 and 11/12ths of 4) and much frustration(5 and 6) but it’s still been great because it’s left me with the world of Eric and Sookie fanfiction!!

  3. I never had any doubt that this was about publicity for something, whether it was the final TB season or something else. It just didn’t make sense for an otherwise fairly private celebrity married couple to suddenly join Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Is it wrong that this new HBO deal just fills me with an even bigger sense of dread over the final season of True Blood? It was already apparent that AB and HBO were all about Anna and Stephen from early on, but this just cements it and my fear that season 7 will be nothing but the Bill & Sookie Show.

  4. I agree with you lostinspace, hopefully it isn’t another season where Bill needlessly shows up in random places when he really faded into the background in the books.

  5. This will be good for them and I’m very happy for them. Already missing True Blood! Thanks for posting this Ericka.

  6. Yep, not a surprise to me either. Smart move for the Emery (Stephen’s real sirname) clan. They were all anti-social media wanting to maintain their privacy, and now, I guess since their deal with HBO they probably want them to be more in the public eye, which is a smart move for them to do. If they run their personal sites half as well as Stephen Amell runs his (Oliver Queen from Arrow) it should work in their favors.

I wish nothing but the best to their futures, both are smart and intelligent business people along with being great actors. Although I dread the final season of TB, cause we all know that at the end of the day, Bill and Sookie will be together. I mean AB pretty much came out and told us that at the very beginning of TB. The only thing I really fear is how they are going to handle (or not handle) Erics’ storyline. I do believe that they are going to kill him off with that darn hep V. I wish that that fan picture of Eric with the black veins on his chest never would have been made public, as that just cemented my fears even more.

  7. B and Nymerias were right all along. Erika too. 🙂 Anna and Stephen joined Twitter and Instagram (and Facebook) probably to promote this deal with HBO (among other things). Howie Deutch is a director on TB, right? We know Denis O’Hare was on TB. DO’H is a Bill/Sookie shipper. (I still think Bucky is going Sookie/Sam for The Book Author.) This first-look deal is good news for Anna and Stephen.

    I love Stephen’s dog Banjo. 🙂

Maybe Bucky will bring back the dead characters the way Ball did in the s4 finale. Where everyone just kind of haphazardly shows up and then just as haphazardly disappears.

I wonder if HBO is the reason The Book Author didn’t kill off Bill when she’d gone so far as to write a death scene for him. In the end, not only did she not kill him off, she rewarded him: Queen of LA, close proximity to his serial rape victim, a “love” affair with Eric’s “daughter,” no consequences for his evil actions, etc. Eric got dragged to H*ll. 😦 If TB goes in a similar direction, this would be in keeping with that predictable cliche trend written about in that EW essay I mentioned here recently. Killing off beloved characters for shock value, if Eric is killed off (or deliberately writing a crowd-displeasing ending for shock value).

Carrie Preston got a new book too.

Aren’t you glad I’m back? 🙂 Take care.
